I’m off to one of my best mate’s hen dos this evening before I race back and more or less straight to the airport! Wish me luck 🙂A lot of my fancy dresses are packed for holiday so I’m in an old favourite, my silk Zara snakeprint dress my mum bought me years ago (it’s less tight on the chest when I have my arms normally!) and the M&S snakeprint heels with a metallic Warehouse clutch. My gold Topshop strappy sandals would’ve worked better but I simple cannot face unpacking them!
I am getting to that point where all my usual clothes are in the wash or packed for holiday (yippee!) I haven’t worn this H&M dress more than once, mainly because the neck is cut indecently low. Luckily the necktie is helping me out today and hanging where it should. It still feels a bit girly for me but it’s easy to wear.
Hope you’re all enjoying the summer holidays.
So I threw a party at the weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday (I have a few more weeks left before the actual big day)
One of my best friends helped steer me in the right direction to make the space a bit more personal. I ordered the flowers from Bloom & Wild (the Harper Lux), the gold fringed photo wall from Party Delights and the balloons from Not On The High Street (they’re Meri Meri).
When I started thinking about what I wanted to wear I was sure it was a playsuit and probably an item I wanted to splash out on and go designer. I tried tens of them!I was really hopeful about the W118 by Walter Baker Gabby satin playsuit but it didn’t sit right on my tummy at all and gaped at the chest. I tried this black DvF Emerson playsuit too but again, the tummy band made it unflattering. It was really lovely though and is in the Matches sale if you have a less thick waist than me.
I gave up on playsuits and these two dresses were the final contenders. The gold got lots of Instgram thumbs up!In the end, it was too hot for the sequins and true to my High Street roots, I wore a dress from ASOS I got for £11. ASOS dress, Kat Maconie heels, metallic clutch from Warehouse, J Crew gold and black tassel earrings from the lovely ShoeQueen79. I changed into trainers when I hit the dance floor! Me and the marvellous Rachel WornOut. My other WornOut lovelies were there too but we were having too much fun to take photos!
I did splash out on some new make up. I am no make up expert but wow, this Tom Ford eye pallet is truly beautiful.I had a trial in a store so that I had an idea of how to blend the colours. I treated myself to the Tom Ford eye primer too. The rest of my makeup is my usual stuff, Chanel foundation, Guerlain Terracotta bronzer (I wear shade 3), Mac highlighter, Body Shop pink blusher, Charlotte Tilbury eyebrow pencil and By Terry Baume du Rose lipbalm instead of lippy.
We are having a quiet week in preparation for more partying in Italia.
Will be back soon.
Wow it’s muggy in London today!
I did my last bootcamp of the summer this morning, quick shower and off to the park in my summer uniform of denim shorts, Mango loose cotton blouse, Havaianas and a top knot. Back soon with something a bit more glam.
You can’t get much easier sunshine dressing than this blue cotton sleeveless shirt dress. Mine is from ASOS but my mate Michelle has a lovely Zara one which is very similar. It has pockets, a pleasingly stiff collar and looks more ££ than it was. I tried and liked mine with my bright pompom sandals, tan Topshop Figs, white Topshop Figs and black tasseled sandals. It’s a winner.
