Cleanin’ Out My Closet

rosso6

I hope I’m not tempting fate but a glimpse of the sun at the weekend and I’m bidding farewell to winter. I love putting away the heavy jumpers and pulling out the tshirts and sandals. Well, I love the idea of it, the reality of folding masses of woolies is rather tiring and creates lots of fluff (I hate fluff!) My dad is a fellow clothes lover and had a real life nightmare last autumn when he realised moths had infested the clothes he’d been storing for winter. I’m learning the lesson and have bought a stock of moth proof bags from John Lewis to store all my jumpers in as well as a few packets of lavender sachets to be extra sure.

La Bambina had great fun “helping”. She loves the Hoover (unlike her mama) and cooed gleefully as I vacuumed out my wardrobes and shelves, sun streaming in through the skylights. It did make me laugh as she kept crawling back to the shoe cupboard to play with my Sam Edelman rose Adenas. She was stroking them for most of the afternoon (much more like her mama!)

Among the bags and boxes I was delighted to be reunited with these sandals I have had for years but could’t find anywhere last summer.

Having decided it is spring no matter what the weather says, over the past few days I’ve been wearing summery clothes with leather jackets and scarves for warmth.

M&S beach trousers, navy Gap pocket tee, black studded Sam Edelman Frankies. I wore my black Zara leather jacket and an old cotton navy scarf with a thin white stripe I’d forgotten I had for the school run and an after school trip to the park.

These leopard jeans are such a beautiful colour but I struggle to know what to wear on top. Here I wore them with a very old cotton jumper from New Look which has buttons down the back and I pleased La Bambina by wearing them with the Adenas. I wore my Mint Velvet creamy leather jacket on top to pop out.

I love these harem / pyjama style trousers from Topshop (last year or the one before) They’re easy to wear and don’t go baggy after a day of rolling on the floor playing. I think I have a plain cream tshirt shaped hole in my wardrobe as I had to dig out this very old draped top from Joules and a H&M beige vest for underneath. Please let me know if you have any recommendations. The cowl neck accentuates my bosom so I put my DvF Kenley cashmere scarf on for decency and my Mint Velvet jacket for warmth.

A red kind of day

A red kind of day

Finally today. I bought this red leather jacket from Massimo Dutti last year when I was pregnant. I wore it a fair bit then fell out of love with it. Today I am wearing it with a LV rip off leopard print scarf (the” Mumsnet scarf”!), black studded Sam Edelman Frankies and a black maxi skirt from Gap (another non-maternity pregnancy buy – amazing how it still fits now after accommodating this bump!)
Kurt Geiger silver Moves
In other news, the Kurt Geiger order arrived. The silver Moves stay. Easy to wear, I know they’re comfy, will go with everything and didn’t break the bank.
Sam Edelman Alvins
The Sam Edelman Alvins almost stayed. I love the print, the texture, the fit and the brightness. But the colours just don’t fit with most of my clothes and so I’ve reluctantly returned them. I would highly recommend them as an alternative to the M&S ones I linked to yesterday.

Tomorrow I will write a blog on my final new purchases for a while – some Zara trousers and a dress.

I’m off for a driving lesson while my dad babysits and conducts a moth security assessment on my winter wear.

Mistakes

La Bambina is almost 6 months old now and her seemingly limitless appetite has seen me drop a dress size.  I was going through my wardrobe the other day to see what fits and felt a bit nauseous when I saw how many “mistakes” I have hanging unworn in there.  I went through them, added a few to the eBay pile and decided to made an effort this week to wear a different “mistake” every day.

It has been cold in London and there was even some snow on Monday but it didn’t settle. My focus has been on keeping warm for days spent in and out of the house.  My sister still has my Barbour Arctic Parka so I have been wearing my grey Zara coat with pleather sleeves.

This J Crew jumper is a beautiful shade of orange – a deep tangerine. I ordered it when they had a sale on several months ago but the raglan sleeves do nothing for my ample bosom so I returned it….  Only to have it returned to me a few weeks later along with the yellow crew neck I blogged before.  I dithered for so long I’d missed the returns period.  Blush.  I am determined to wear it though.  Here with DvF cashmere Atomic Leopard scarf, Hudson Nico skinnies, Cafe’Noir grey boots.

winter4

Having enjoyed wearing a bright colour on a dull day, I dug out a massive woolly scarf my mum bought me from Cos last year and wore it with Zara skinnies, my beloved Jaeger cashmere jumper from years ago (over a Uniqlo heattech) and Cafe’Noir boots.  When I got home I swapped the boots for Celtic Sheepskin slippers and felt like I was wrapped in a clothing hug.

I had to change the scarf for a Reiss snood later in the day when I wanted to put La Bambina in the sling.

winter7

Today I am wearing Zara skinnies, Cafe’Noir boots (again), black Gap Pure roll neck and a fluffy waistcoat from River Island that I bought on eBay.  I didn’t look at the photos properly before I bid and was surprised when it arrived that it is so cropped and not proper faux fur. I actually quite like it now though and my baby is very keen.  Her big sister suggested I look like a teddy bear which I think is a compliment.

Stay warm!

Festive Round-up

I hope all our readers had a happy Christmas.  I did lots of cooking!  Indeed I do not have one photo of me from Christmas Day where I am not wearing a red spotty pinny.  Under it I wore a Mango gold sequin square jumper I bought when I was heavily pg, with Zara star jeans and my Sam Edelman rose Adenas (black in a size 5 here for £35!!)

Boxing Day and more family and cooking.  I wore a Zara black shirt with gold buttons, Zara gold and black brocade trousers, Kenneth Jay Lane coin bracelet, Whistles gold jewelled necklace and no shoes (luckily I was indoors – I have yet to find shoes to go with the trousers)

We are a gift giving family and thoroughly enjoyed spoiling each other.  I was lucky to unwrap this DvF Atomic cashmere scarf and a Marc by Marc Jacobs grey handbag I have been coveting (see final photo)

I am not a fan of the sales (I like discounts, just not jumble sales)  I only shop them on line usually.  I did need a new pair of jeans though so braved the madness for an hour’s dash to Selfridges yesterday.  None of their premium brand denim is in the sale of course apart from some of the more zany printed jeans (as far as I could see anyway)  I need some though so I tried about 30 pairs on from Paige, J Brand, MiH, Goldsign, Rag & Bone, James Jeans and Hudson while La Bambina slept and my big girl played on her new DS.  I ended up with the Hudson Nicos which I love and will blog soon.  I am now avidly checking on line for black or grey J Brand Marias in the sale.  Let me know if you spot any, please!  Anyway, for the shopping and then dinner I wore black Nudie jeans, old grey Cos cashmere tshirt, Oasis Carrie wedges, grey Zara coat, new DvF scarf and new Marc by Marc Jacobs bag.

The Scarf

This is my new scarf.  It is Marc by Marc Jacobs from my-wardrobe. It is beautiful.

I have always adored animal prints, even in the days when leopard print was frowned upon by fashion. I love my faux Vuitton leopard print scarf (also known in certain circles as the “Mumsnet scarf”) and have long wanted a warmer version for winter.  I did consider a few others including this cashmere leopard print one but as soon as I saw this I knew I’d found The One.  (Have a look at this beauty too though!)

It has a grey dragon scale print which feels fresher than leopard print. It is 100% wool so warm, but thin enough to wear in autumn and spring as well as winter.  It’s lightness also makes it comfortable over one of my beloved roll necks and even viable over one of my Cos cashmere scarves for really cold weather.  It goes well with grey, black, taupe, khaki, brown, navy, wine and dark green.  Indeed I struggled to find anything it didn’t look good with.

Worn here with a very old draped Vero Moda shirt, M&S wet look leggings and Oasis Carries.

I’ve added my comfy discounted DVF shoesMichael Kors clutch (bought in the sale from My wardrobe.com)  Joseph Stevie powder pink silk top (heavily reduced as there was a mark on it.) The mark has now gone thanks to the local dry cleaners) and TopShop plum jacket (not shown).  I was due to wear this Reiss top but as usual I was rushing to get out of the house so I’ll save it for another outing.
