A/W Wish List – old and new

I’ve poured over Vogue, NAP and Matches, browsed my high street favourites and I must say I am pretty uninspired. I’ve seen very little that I am interested in buying for winter.

It’s actually quite a surprise that I have seen little. Ok so I don’t like pink much but apart from that A/W’s trends are some of my favourites – lots of black, masculine cuts, shearling, leather, and baggy jeans and trainers still feature.

As I mentioned before, I am in the middle of a serious clothing cull. I keep things for decades and am pleased if they get one wear a season. It would be okay if I had five or ten things that fell into this category. Embarrassingly I have closer to 100. Ten grey tshirts, not one of which I love but one that will go with x skirt and justify me keeping them all. It is just too much and I have been very serious in my attempts to get rid of things and not to do those crazed H&M dashes. I will be buying better in future. Better, happier, more sustainable.

Enough moralising. I do have my eye on a few things.

At the moment all I want to wear is my lovely J Crew neon Cashmere Tippi (here but I can’t see the same pink anymore) It is bright enough to sate my colour lust (one of our lovely readers called me a “colour magpie” which made me smile) and the balance of warm but cool that only cashmere can be (in my humble experience) I have the black tshirt version from a few years ago but am very tempted to purchase another with the 25% code I have. I am seriously kicking myself for not buying the yellow neon when I had a chance. Every day I think, “if only I had the J Crew yellow neon sweater….” Hey ho.

I am also rueing the return of the La Redoute Shearling coat I bought in the sale last year. I loved it but was worried I had spent too much money and it had to go back. I have had a long term love affair with shearling though and have a few pieces I am going to bring in to daily wear including my black shearling Zara stole.

On to things new.

I love boiled wool. I think I’ve mentioned before the boiled wool funnel neck jumper my mum has had for many years from Stefanel. I’ve been looking for similar for over a decade. This Boiled Wool Cape from The White Company looks similar though it might be too similar to my draped black boiled wool coat.

I also really like this Chunky Button Poncho from The White Company, though I’m slightly concerned that being 100% merino wool might mean it leaves fluff on anything I’d wear it with. And the quality of the jumpers I’ve had from there in the past hasn’t been fantastic though this may just be me?

I am hoping to find a Cos version of the Acne Wham oversized sweater (or a NAP discount code!) Then I will discard all the similar sweater dresses in my wardrobe that no longer fit / have moth holes etc.

Were I rich, this Day Birger leather jacket would be mine in a flash. As it is I have a black Zara leather jacket, a grey All Saints Post Commander and a Massimo Dutti red leather biker that will more than adequately do the job (not that it stops me lusting!)

These J Brand grey leather trousers are what I really, really, really want. There must be a High Street pair that would be far better suited to my budget and lifestyle (“paper thin leather” worries me) If you have seen them, please let me know!

Boots wise I am sorted. I was lucky enough to be gifted these shearling lined Acne Pistols for my birthday. I bought the Ugg Gershwins last year for when it is really cold and my Ash Jalouse in stone and black are still going strong. I also have my Belstaff biker boots which will last me years more.

I am not planning a new coat purchase either (not a very aspirational wish list – sorry) I have my Barbour Arctic Parka for when it gets freezing, my Zara parka from last year, as well as the grey Zara coat with faux leather sleeves which I still love. I am even tempted to give my almost unworn Zara navy studded sleeve coat to my beautiful sister.

This is a jacket 637878_mainrather than a coat but I am trying to resist the temptation to visit a River Island to try it on.

And finally, these. They won’t be on the wish list for long as they have my name all over them and will be on their way to me as soon as I find them in my size. I blame Joanna from Poppy’s Style and am expecting her buy me a large glass of wine when she is next in the UK to make up for making me fall in love with them ūüėČ

That’s all for now. What’s your major current clothing lust? Please do share.

Pre-sale madness

Is there any better email to receive than one entitled ‘your exclusive sale preview’?¬† Come on, is there?

I know its a marketing trick but oh, how¬†it works on this shallow creature.¬† And so how disappointed was I when after spending what felt like hours going through the My-Wardrobe site, I couldn’t find one single thing that I was even tempted by.

I then heard a rumour that the Matches pre-sale had started but where was my code?¬† Finally after much checking of my emails I received one.¬†¬† Now I think Matches is possibly my favourite retail site.¬† Their styling is amazing but obviously their prices aren’t cheap, so a discount code makes a big difference.

So what was I tempted by?  Well as you know, I love Isabel Marant Etoile and I love quilted jackets.  Despite the fact that the patterned zara one was ebayed a while back (for what I paid for it  Рyeay), I still have a yen for one.

So I ordered this one

And here I am in it.  Wearing with navy vest from River Island, Stella & Dot necklace and Hudson jeans from last year which are a tad low rise really but I love the colour.

Thank goodness¬†I’m not on the Netaporter pre-sale list as that jacket has used up all my sales¬†budget.

So what have I been wearing for this mixed weather half-term.  Well its ranged from spring coats to dresses, sometimes in the same day.

So variations on a theme with navy Whistles coat to the left and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel trench on the right.  River Island skinnies in both and navy pistols Рoh yes, I dyed the beige ones navy.

That Zara jacket again on the left – lordy, I’m getting my money’s worth out of it.¬† Red bag as before, Topshop nano sandals which are incredibly comfortable, way more so than my Hasbeens.

And on the right, Johnnie B broderie top, Zara jacket and Stella & Dot necklace.  Slightly concerned I look pregnant in this one, because I am most definitely not.  However the constant eating of cakes my also account for this.

Navy and mint

I wear a lot of navy, an awful lot. I used to wear a lot of black but unless its for going out, I just don’t think it does me any favours in daylight.¬†¬† And with navy I love mint green.¬† I have a yen for these Paige¬†Kylie jeans

But I don’t know, past experience has shown that pale jeans do my thighs no favours.¬† I find them more unflattering than white jeans, am I alone in this I wonder?¬† But those jeans would look so nice with the Dune wedge giraffe sandals that I am still obsessing over, and my navy Tippi J Crew jumper.¬†¬† See how I’m thinking jumpers because its still rather chilly out.

When I was looking at sandals in TopShop I saw a lovely lemon jumper but the fabric was very synthetic and I suspect would not have washed well.  Yes, I have turned into my mother.  But I do rather fancy something in primrose as again it looks lovely with navy and also white.   A quick search produced this pretty jumper from Pure Collection which I have pinned in anticipation of the sales

I also saw WIT posted a photo on twitter of her wearing this top

I’d wish listed this a while back and of course now its out of stock in my size, I really, really want it.¬† Honestly I am a marketer’s dream – show it to me and then dangle out of my reach and oh how I desire it.

And my final wish list item is this bracelet I saw on the Pink Peonies blog

The price is fairly reasonable I think but I do wish Stella & Dot did the occasional code.

And finally, today I am wearing

Many, many layers.  River Island Amelie, Beige Pistols (bargain from Outnet last year), Gap jumper, Farhi linen biker and Lily & Lionel bloom scarf.

For a few hours this morning the sun shone.¬†¬† Now this was momentous as it cheered me up and enabled me to wear the H&M Victoriana blouse I mentioned last week.¬† Not sure if I mentioned I’d actually bought it though¬† but here it is on

I took a fairly close up photo so you can see the pretty embroidery detail Рhonestly I am really really pleased with this top.  It will undoubtedly get lots of wear over the next few months.  However by the time we returned from a trip to the dentists and the florists it was snowing so I had to change.

Now as you know I’m on a spending ban at the moment but thankfully just before it started (or thereaobouts) I saw Kat’s blog about River Island.¬† Now I am a great lover of RI – I think the Amelie jeans are fab and also the long vest tops are the best on the high street in my opinion.¬†¬† Now I’d sort of been thinking that I really needed some khaki skinnies for the summer and had been eyeing up the J Brand Careys (right) ¬†with an eye to the summer sales but then saw these River Island ones and so had to try them.

river JBrand-Carey-Khaki-L

And they’re really nice.¬† The sizing is generous and the rise is good and they’re ¬£20 – what’s not to like?

Return to the Trench

Honestly its like I’ve piled every single cliched item into today’s outfit.¬† A trench, some stripes and of course some leopard.

Now as I mentioned yesterday – I’m not totally sure about this trench.¬† It does fit neatly round the shoulders and is actually pretty warm for a mac but still I rarely wear it.¬† I have an idea that it may work well with a breton dress in the spring as the length is a bit longer than the mac I wore yesterday so will keep it for now and see.

The trench is Sonia Rykiel via The Outnet a long time ago, skinnies are River Island, stripey top is Gap and the bag is Tory Burch.

I’m still on the hunt for the perfect breton¬†– not too clingy, too long or too wide – not asking much am I?¬† I saw this one on pinterest the other day and rather like the look of it

It looks a good length and the broderie detail is sweet РI will try and see it in the flesh although as we break up tomorrow for the Easter holidays this may not be for some time.

You may have noticed that I’m a bit of a Johnnycomelately with trends and so I’m only now really beginning to realise how fab all the statement necklaces are.¬† I love the J Crew bubble one

But there is no way I’d pay that much for one – I have seen some interpretations on ebay for about one tenth of the price and am tempted to try.

I’m also rather enamoured of this one from Dorothy Perkins – it looks very Stella & Dot to me

And one final item today that I like the look of Рthese untouchable boots from Office

And Spring13 gets 20% off.

What a mishmash of a post today – I think it reflects my mood in that my head is thinking of sandals and summer but the reality is another couple of months of macs and boots.
