Cashmere lovers, I’m calling you…

Hello, who doesn’t love cashmere?!  It’s a shame that it’s often hideously expensive, or dowdily shaped. I have lots of classic shaped cashmere knits, but this roomy H&M charcoal cashmere knit (£59) had me heading in store to check it out.  A more modern, interesting way to wear cashmere.  I find that this sort of relaxed fit can work well with fitted skirts or trousers / jeans:

H&M do quite a few cashmere or cashmere blend items. When H&M say “cashmere blend”, by the way, they mean 50 or 70% cashmere with the remaining 50 or 30% being wool. I loathe 5% cashmere being touted as “cashmere blend”. What tosh.

This well priced cashmere is found in the Premium Quality section, which is my favourite place to look for well priced, high quality items. The H&M cashmere is well priced, and I found the quality of last year’s maroon / berry cashmere scarf to be superb. It’s thick, soft and still looks new. So, I’ve high hopes for this year’s cashmere.

Back to the charcoal knit, this is how size S looks on me (can you see how fitted the sleeves are? I think that’s a slimming way to wear big knits):

I’m wearing the jumper with my J Brand 912 jeans (size 28) and old M&S Autograph ponyskin ankle boots.

I also tried on the cashmere dress (£80):

but even in a size S, it felt bigger than Ben Hur, so probably suited to someone far far taller than me:

Perfect maternity winter dress, though:

Finally, another high street store where I have sourced cashmere, is Uniqlo.  Their cashmere is now instore.  You can possibly see from the below camel crew neck (£70), that they have updated the shape, to make it more relaxed, and split the bottom seam.  I will be heading in store to check it out.  They have a limited colour range, but I wore my black cashmere crew neck from Uniqlo a lot last year, so may buy another.

Christmas list

It’s all about me, this list. I have a children’s list too, but this one is pure indulgence (and fantasy sadly!)

I’m a great believer in everyday luxury, I would rather have a beautiful keyring that I use everyday than an amazing party dress which I rarely wear. So the first two items on my Christmas list are very practical!

Valentino lace effect sunglasses I just love these, the combination of the cats eye shape and the lace print is so glamorous

Prada pink wallet I have had my eye on this for a while, the colour is so beautiful, and really is there an item you use more often than your wallet?

You just can’t have a Christmas list without some sparkle and I certainly don’t need the festive season as an excuse to wear glitter or sequins.

I got a great Lancome gold glitter varnish last Christmas, but it’s empty now, so this Butter London  looks like a good replacement

J Crew Flower lattice necklace  I have been pining for this necklace for a while now, I absolutely love it

These Maison Martin Margiela boots are the ultimate ankle boots and the great thing about metallics is they go with everything.

Like Eve, I have been a fan of By Terry’s lip balm for a while now, but the packaging of this Dior balm has turned my head, it is just so pretty!  Dior  rose lip balm

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps is the ultimate body lotion for me, it smells delicious and has such a lovely sheen

Diptyque Baies is the only scented candle I like, a beautiful fragrance the lasts for ages. I had the tragedy of getting the Baies room spray last year, and promptly smashing it on the ceramic tiles. I still wince when I remember it!

Now, you have to have something snuggly on your Christmas list, don’t you? I dream about lounging around all day in these Liberty print pajamas and sheepskin slippers, watching Grace Kelly movies and reading old magazines. As if that’s going to happen.

And no Christmas list from me is complete without some cashmere

I have been lusting after this jumper for a while now and finally nabbed it yesterday (Yes all my best Christmas presents usually come from myself) Get it now from Whistles or House of Fraser with 20% off  Whistles Audrey cashmere jumper

And this is a gorgeous snuggly treat from Eilis Boyle cashmere hat scarf . And look, with all this snow and ice we are forecast, it is an absolute winter essential, no?

And finally, I need a bag on my list. I have been hankering after a red bag for a while. After coming across this vintage Birkin, nothing else will do now. I think I will need a lottery win for this one somehow

All that glitters

On a day like today  (it has been bucketing down since the middle of the night)I certainly need some sparkle in my life, so how fortuitous that the postman should bring me this Zara gold sequin skirt (via ebay)! Off came the boring jeans and on went the skirt. I’d love a navy textured knit to go with it and I’ve searched everywhere to no avail so I think I might have to knit one myself. At the rate I knit these days it should be ready for A/W 2013 though! Making do with an old navy cashmere jumper for now, I’ll have a root through the cupboards to see what else it will go with. Any ideas?

By now you’ll have seen that I’m a bit of a magpie, with my gold Mulberry bag, a couple of pairs of gold trainers, boots with gold heels, and my desire for sparkly things is unabated. I recently spotted these gold heeled boots in Dune, inspired by Celine boots from a couple of winters ago. The  lovely round toe is right up my street, but the heel is too high for me to wear every day.

Eve and I have been dreaming about these Maje boots for a while now, I tried them on (again) yesterday, but have decided they are a tad too cowboyish in shape, so I am crossing them off my list. Phew.

Then I spotted these in a Zadig &Voltaire ad in Grazia. Swoon. But they are not on their website and the staff in the Z&V concession in Brown Thomas had never seen them before. Hmm.

My final sparkly spotting is much more affordable, and would be a really good buy for winter I think, from River Island. Soft and fuzzy charcoal grey with sparkles, it looks much nicer in real life than on their site. Given the weather forecast I heard this morning, we’ll all be needing something to brighten up our days for the next while.
