Seeing Double

It’s the mark, I think, of a really good buy when I want to wear it the second I get it home. I actually bought this dress in the sale at Whistles a few weeks ago, but hung it up on the outside of the wardrobe so I could see it from my bed. On Friday, it got its first outing, joining me for dinner with a few friends. It was a sunny evening, so I decided to walk to the restaurant, which required flat, comfy sandals.

Saturday morning was bright, but breezy, so I chucked on jeans and a tee, but by noon the sun was high in the sky, just in time for us to see the carnival dance past, so I felt like putting on something a little looser. On went the dress again, this time with flip-flops.  Today I will have to force myself to wear something else but I’m already looking forward to wearing my Whistles dress again.

My £10 spree

*Note: sorry about the wonky/dodgy photos*

All excited about the news that we are headed for a hot July, and inspired by Eve’s stripy dress, I headed off to H&M and Zara for some new summer clothes.  But I didn’t get there. I was way laid by a sale at my favourite charity shop, where most things were £2.  Reader, I have had a shopping spree and only spent £10.  I won’t even kid myself that this is also an act of charity.

1st purchase was this French Connection floral garden print skirt that I had always planned to buy (or something else in the same print – they also did a few dresses in it, too) when it was in the sales, but never did.

Apologies for the grimy mirror and the bad photos

It makes me feel like dancing: cha cha cha.

2nd purchase is this really nice, faded denim skirt from H&M.  Its so short that I can’t see me wearing it, except at home or on holidays, but its £2 and I like it.   And sometimes its nice not to be too prim.

I’m quite liking the pockets

3rd purchase is this full black cotton H&M skirt, which is a bit short, but will be OK for when I am not with the Bolters.

Here you can see my scary pale skin.  And the fold detail, giving it the full shape I like.  Although I still would like a longer (knee length), prom dress.  They are so pretty and quite feminine.

Just to make you smile, how hideous does this shape look on me?  It adds about 5kg to my frame.  No thank you.

Its interesting how much the shape of clothes can change how you look.

4th purchase is this standard, short Uniqlo denim skirt.  I used to have one, that I bought after I had my eldest, but after the baby weight came off, it was too big and Uniqlo didn’t seem to do them again.

5th and final purchase are these distressed ASOS jeans.  They need to be shortened and the left knee needs to be patched or something, but I thought it looked to be an easy, cheap project to have some cute summer jeans.  And, you know, for £2 I won’t cry if it doesn’t work out, will I?!

Today’s outfit is: old Australian brand tuxedo shirt (with sparkly cuff buttons) – I am a dandy at heart, H&M fancy pants cropped brocade trousers (now on sale for £12) and Sam Edelman Adenas.

Here is a photo of one of the littlest Bolters, in her old Gap striped trim dress, which I wish came in my size!

Fluro flashes

Today’s vest is the fluro lime version of the black Ikat one I was wearing yesterday. I have it in pure black too. It is quite long and so I have tied a knot in the back. It is also a tad sheer but I prefer to double up on vests anyway. It is £7.99.
I have mentioned before my reliance on these H&M vests. I have many of them in every colour and wear one as a base layer every day. I am wearing a white one under the lime printed vest. They are often out of stock on line but available in abundance in store.
I am wearing the vest with Zara distressed boyfriend jeans, Gap grey ballet flats, old grey Zara jersey blazer.
And added Marc by Marc Jacobs grey bag and a yellow Zara scarf to go out.

I have four new fluro flashes too. Marc by Marc Jacobs iphone cover, Marc by Marc Jacobs makeup bag, H&M fluro necklace and a neon watch which was £5 from the H&M kids section.

Trying harder

So today I tried harder and felt happier in my clothes. I also went shopping which almost always makes me happy.
20130530-154904.jpg Zara snake print maxi skirt, Zara grey linen long sleeve tee, with H&M beige lace neck vest underneath, Sam Edelman Frankie, old snake print scarf, Mint Velvet leather jacket, Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Natasha bag (thanks for the name Suzanne!)

I bought a few things.
20130530-162153.jpgThis is the happiest spending £7.99 has probably ever made me! Thanks H&M!

20130530-161302.jpgThe first of today’s odd poses! I tried the blue snake version of this before but it did me no favours. I like this much more. Again, it is from H&M.

20130530-160850.jpgThis bag was less than £10. Watermelon reminds me of Italy in summer which always makes me happy so it has come home with me.

20130530-162430.jpgThese black Dobrus flats from Aldo are simple but comfy. My sister had a pair years ago from Poste Mistress and they looked great with jeans. I hope these will too seeing as my sandals are getting so little wear.

20130530-171107.jpgI got these pale blue harems in Zara (though they describe them as palazzo trousers) I plan to wear them with a grey tshirt and silver sandals.

And finally the reason I’m really happy! 20130530-162548.jpgMy photo isn’t doing this beautiful Zara coat justice at all. You’ll be seeing a lot more of it so I will make sure I get a better photo next time.

I’m off to smile at my final purchase – La Bambina’s first tutu!
