Easy riding

I think I mentioned these biker jeans before.  Well, here they are: New Look biker skinnies.  Really good looking and its a bit fun having a bit of a biker look when you are pushing a double buggy to school and nursery.  Emulating an outlaw when you very very much live sedately within the law!  OK, no one would ever actually mistake me for an outlaw, but I love a little imaginary dressing up.  Obviously I stop short of buying a leather jacket and adorning it with studs and biker gang mottos!

Back to reality…  The New Look biker skinnies are £23, made of a soft stretchy cotton (28% polyester for good stretchiness), rather than a proper denim.  There is also some fading, which is a good alternative to solid black.  Size wise, they are true to size: I bought a 10, and they fit well.  Expect to see them often!  Although, I just discovered last night that they have been through the dryer (gulp), so I will report back if they didn’t survive.

I wore them in 2 different ways the other day:

Outfit 1: River Island cotton blend yellow jumper (love the colour, do not love the way it stretches out of shape during the day.  Its days are, therefore, numbered)  |  White H&M cotton vest  |  New Look biker skinnies  |  Kurt Geiger Willow ankle boots (I have fallen in love with them all over again)

Outfit 2: H&M denim shirt, and the rest of the outfit is the same, as it was the same day.  I liked both looks, but couldn’t find any sparkles to wear with them, so felt a bit bare.  The Bolters have broken some of my sparkles while playing / exploring in my room, so I am a bit of a dull bird at the moment.20130912-215635.jpg

Hopefully you can see the seam detail in this photo.

Looking back

As mentioned before, we filled our blog so I am a bit behind.  Looking at photos from last week, the first photo I want to post is from last Thursday.  The weather was wild and wet, but I have found somewhere to take both small and older children that I think is both fantastic and overlooked (ie not as nightmarishly busy as the Science Museum or the Natural History Museum).  The Museum of London, in the City just near the St Paul’s tube station.  While most of their weekend family events are for children over 5 years’ old, on Wednesday’s they have activities for the under 5’s, including during the term breaks.  Its actually really difficult to find somewhere that is both indoors and suitable for small children.

Anyway, my favourite galleries were those covering the periods of 1666-1850’s and also  1850’s-1940’s.  A fascinating time in London’s history, and its both entertainingly and informatively presented at the Museum.  For example – there are several boxes set within a wall where children (and adults) can put their hands in and feel keys, handcuffs, chains etc from an old prison.  There are many other interactive exhibits that I won’t bore you with, but I think its a tremendous museum and I highly recommend it for children of any age, as well as for adults.  I can’t think of anywhere else, apart from the Science Museum, where we have been able to let the girls run around touching exhibits so freely.

Back to what I was wearing.  As you can see, I was carrying a breadstick as I took this photo while getting the girls ready.  Apart from the breadstick, I was also adorned with a Zara floral silk/cotton scarf, H&M black wool mix biker jacket, & Other Stories Clare Vivier yellow leather bag, Mango Kate  skinny jeans & Kurt Geiger black Willow ankle boots.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine…  Actually, not for long – the weather forecast says real, genuine sunshine is on its way!

Topped with cream

I love a cream / light coloured coat, they make me stop and look and, usually, smile.  And over the last week, I’ve seen and worn a few:

First one: shopping in New Look the other day, I saw this rather lovely mink (a darker hue of cream?) leather biker jacket. Its a great fit (close to the body, and also slim, but not tight, on the arms), so I am quite tempted. Only the leather, is actually a nubuck finish, so I shudder to think how it would look after a day out at the playground…  Reduced to £40, its worth thinking twice about, though, no?  Maybe some suede protector would help?  Its a lovely creamy beige, not grey, not pink, not yellowy.  I am talking myself into this one, I think…

Second: this coat is lightweight, so as soon as the weather warmed up a little, I happily pulled this old friend out.  I bought it quite a few years ago in Sydney, when I was young and had lots of child free fun.  Ah, the memories…  I digress.

The rest of the outfit is a Massimo Dutti wool sea green and natural toned snakeskin scarf, Zara super skinny jeans and Kurt Geiger Willow ankle boots.

Lastly, while flicking through Vogue today, I saw this charming looking cream lace jacket that will apparently be coming to Hoss Intropia soon.  I looked, its not on their website yet, but I’m looking forward to when it is.  Its a darling little thing, isn’t it?!

All Saints preserve us

I had a lovely comment on our blog from a lady saying that she had been wanting a pair of Kurt Geiger Willow ankle boots after seeing mine, and had found a pair on eBay.  Success!  And it reminded me that I saw a friend wearing these black leather Hessian ankle boots from All Saints (£165) and was taken with how beautiful they are.  Very elegant style with high quality leather.  My friend has very sensitive tootsies, so these must also be comfortable, if she bought them.  The Hessian boots also come in grey suede, but I don’t think they are nearly as nice.

ll Saints Hessian grey suede ankle boots – not as nice, are they?
But look at this gorgeous, heavily embellished  Graffiti grey sequin skirt (£195)!  Swoon….

And as for me and what I have been wearing, here’s a snap from the other day.  Outfit is cream Tie Rack wool pashmina, TopShop leopard print coat, Primark crystal button cashmere cardi (my inner Nanna loves a cardi), Zara super skinny jeans.  And, and, and, the Willow ankle boots of course.  Mmm, I need more leather boots.  Coloured leather boots.  At a reasonable price.  And all I can find is suede!

SUPER STRETCH SKINNY JEANS - Jeans - Woman - ZARA 4806/233

Zara super skinny jeans

After a particularly trying week, I am off to Century 21 (yet again!), so will let you know how I get on…

Bolt of the blue

Since I am all rugged up in my warmest clothes – cashmere, Heattech and my decidedly practical looking North Face coat – the only real variety I could easily add this morning was via different earrings.  I probably look a bit bizarre heading off to playgroup with chandelier earrings, but as a nice lady who helps run the playgroup said to me “if you don’t wear them to playgroup, just where are you going to wear them”?  Too true.

Today’s outfit is a navy cashmere Pure Collection cardigan, the Zara super skinny jeans (the 2nd pair), white Primark long sleeved top and Kurt Geiger ankle boots.

Chandelier earrings from Oliver Bonas (definitely a store worth having a browse in for pretty costume jewellery pieces.  Especially if you like the delicate look of Alex Monroe, but are thinking cheaper.  Obviously, the quality reflects the price, but they stock lovely items).

Now, you may remember that a while ago I went to the My-Wardrobe SS13 preview, and was quite taken with the cobalt blue Pistols.  Reader, they are in stock (exclusively at My-Wardrobe, for £350)!  And Daily Mail, only slightly behind, has done an advert/article on them today, although they seem to be labouring under the illusion that there is a waiting list.  Mmm, not yet there isn’t…

I am a practical girl, though, and think that, since I destroy suede (one of my many gifts), I will be looking to these Opening Ceremony Brenda deep blue glitter leather chelsea boots (£254).  Leather is the better choice for me.  And these have a little flash to cheer the soul.
