Going up up up

You may remember I bought this Maje dress a couple of weeks ago. Well, here it is, having been taken up, up, up. And now I think it’s a bit short. But, it’s cute and its too shapeless to wear much longer, on my particular body shape. So, I’ll just make sure I wear boy briefs underneath and will bend at the knees.

More importantly, I wore the dress to see my sister’s new baby. Oh dear God, that child is exquisite. Just perfect. I’m so luck to be able to visit and enjoy those new baby snuggles. I must start planning my next visit!

I am a real lady about town.  Ooh, yes.  This morning, while the Bolters were at nursery, I had a lovely coffee with my husband and then dashed to Selfridges to get a silver christening gift engraved.  I must say, Timpsons do the engraving at Selfridges and, having used them a couple of times, their staff are just lovely: helpful, kind and informed.  On the way back to nursery, I had just enough time for a quick look through a local charity shop.  And I am glad I did!

Selfridges on a sunny day

Charity shopping is such a hit and miss affair.  For every visit that I find something, there are numerous visits when I walk out, empty handed, thinking “oh dear me, that really wasn’t good”.  But I seem to be on a lucky streak lately, so I found two sweet, lacy summery things.

First, this simple, unassuming embroidered white camisole that will work nicely over a white vest and with some distressed denim.

Pretty tops all in a row

Secondly, I have heard a lot about Maje, but never actually tried anything from the brand on.  Now I have, and now I own this lovely grey silk and white lace Maje dress.

Although I think it would work better on me if its a bit shorter, as per the way I have stylishly hoisted the hem up below.  I think I have a frame (small but curvy) that means I can’t wear things that lack shape if they are too long or too big.  But then, I also bend over when attending to and chasing the Bolters, so my dresses and skirts can’t be too short.  Its a fine line.

Details, details…

Today’s outfit: Mango black vest, Forever 21 necklace, Mango black lace skirt, Australian brand sandals, Coccinelle red Queency bag.  And Maybelline Forever Strong Super Stay Gel Nail Colour in Rose Poudre – buy some nail polish from this range if you like your nail polish to last all week.

Finally, last night my husband played me this clip of Steve Kardynal singing Call Me Maybe, while recording people’s responses on Chat Roulette (never heard of it, but apparently the kids these days love Chat Roulette), and I was both charmed and amused – just try not to smile or laugh while watching!  I have watched it about 6 times today.  OK, just one more time then I will wake the littlest Bolters from their nap…

My one and only …

…sales purchase, that is. To be honest I haven’t fallen head over heels with much lately. Maybe it was the weather damping down my urges for sandals and summer dresses, but I think a lot of shops have been pretty uninspiring this season. I did, however spot this Maje top way back in February when it came in first, so I was really delighted to nab it at a 50% reduction. That is such a satisfying feeling.

I really love it, the sequins are navy when you brush them down and silver when you brush them up so I forsee endless hours of fun making patterns! It also comes as a jacket and I spotted Cressida Bonas wearing it to a snazzy wedding at the weekend. It’s available on Stylebop.

I so wish I had a justification for buying the jacket in pink. Can someone not get married so I have an excuse? Hint, hint to all my unmarried friends. Go on, just for me?

All that glitters

On a day like today  (it has been bucketing down since the middle of the night)I certainly need some sparkle in my life, so how fortuitous that the postman should bring me this Zara gold sequin skirt (via ebay)! Off came the boring jeans and on went the skirt. I’d love a navy textured knit to go with it and I’ve searched everywhere to no avail so I think I might have to knit one myself. At the rate I knit these days it should be ready for A/W 2013 though! Making do with an old navy cashmere jumper for now, I’ll have a root through the cupboards to see what else it will go with. Any ideas?

By now you’ll have seen that I’m a bit of a magpie, with my gold Mulberry bag, a couple of pairs of gold trainers, boots with gold heels, and my desire for sparkly things is unabated. I recently spotted these gold heeled boots in Dune, inspired by Celine boots from a couple of winters ago. The  lovely round toe is right up my street, but the heel is too high for me to wear every day.

Eve and I have been dreaming about these Maje boots for a while now, I tried them on (again) yesterday, but have decided they are a tad too cowboyish in shape, so I am crossing them off my list. Phew.

Then I spotted these in a Zadig &Voltaire ad in Grazia. Swoon. But they are not on their website and the staff in the Z&V concession in Brown Thomas had never seen them before. Hmm.

My final sparkly spotting is much more affordable, and would be a really good buy for winter I think, from River Island. Soft and fuzzy charcoal grey with sparkles, it looks much nicer in real life than on their site. Given the weather forecast I heard this morning, we’ll all be needing something to brighten up our days for the next while.

Roman holiday (I wish)

My daughter and I have been working our way through an Audrey Hepburn box set on these rainy school holidays, so being easily influenced, today’s outfit has a bit of a Roman Holiday vibe. Must get my husband dressed up in a sharp suit and we’ll hop on the back of his Vespa!

The top is from Massimo Dutti, bought partly in celebration of the fact that my children are past the sticky fingers stage, the trousers are from Maje, last years  sandals from Topshop – I love the metallic heel- my J Crew necklace and Hermes Cape Cod watch.

Come back next week when I will be channeling Grace Kelly in High Society!
