Armchair shopping

Whay a day, bucketing rain here, lights on, heating on, slippers and wrist warmers on. What else to do but a bit of online browsing!

Given what I’m wearing this week I have been looking at dresses, but several questions spring to mind as I browse,  among them, why are there so many sleeveless dresses? It is winter! And is there a global shortage of coloured dyes because almost every dress on the high street is black, navy or charcoal? My criteria are long sleeves and non-muddy coloured, and there’s not a lot to choose from. If I was looking for a going out dress I’d be fine, but I want something lovely for everyday that won’t break the bank. If money was no object I would be wearing Carven dresses every day, but sadly it is!

Take the Me & Em site for example. I love their clothes and have a much worn heavy cashmere cardigan from them. But their dress colours are dark – black, navy, charcoal, even when they stray into blues and greens they are muddy and dull. Some of the styles and cuts look great but I just don’t need another dark item in my wardrobe.

I would love this dress in a colour, it looks like a flattering cut, and has pockets which I love in a dress. I could live with the lack of sleeves, and if it was available in a warm colour it would be on it’s way to me.

The same goes for Jigsaw and Whistles, there are some lovely dresses but the colours really let them down. Boden, on the other hand has pretty good selection, avoiding the fun prints of course.

Another place I love to browse is the Matches site, and their Style Steals section has some great Diane Von Furstenberg dresses with great reductions. I love this drapey cobalt one. Thermal underneath and blazer on top would insulate you,

and this Anglomania. The sizes are limited, but they might fit you, I hope so!

This morning, before it started to pour, I was wearing this DVF  Adeline dress which was a winter sale purchase from last year, but I fear I am ruining the look with my slippers and cardigan, so I think an outfit change may be in order.
