Fantasy blazer

Some items of clothes are just a dream come true. They look good, are comfortable, are not too dressy, not too casual and go with so many things. The Zara cream fantasy blazer (last season but similar here) is one such item. I often don’t plan to wear it, but when I open the coat / blazer cupboard, there it is, looking like the best option of the day.

So I have, randomly, worn it for the last two days, with completely different outfits.

Yesterday, I wore it with:

  • – the sparkly Zara necklace (it’s such a fun, stand out piece that I really recommend it),
  • – a denim shirt (H&M),
  • – a black mini skirt (too short and not great quality – I need a different one),
  • – the fab Gap low rise opaque stockings (I think I am a size small), and
  • -my beloved Kurt Geiger Willow ankle boots.

Today I wore it with:

  • a black Heattech thermal top (thank you, Uniqlo, for allowing me to watch my eldest play football and maintain a working circulatory system),
  • Uniqlo skinny cargos (which are stretching to be too big so action is needed),
  • a charming multicoloured alpaca scarf from Columbia (gift from darling sister), and
  • tan Mimco Anarchy ankle boots (old, but look at TopShop for some fab tan ankle boots – the Mighty (tan not shown online), the Anarchy (my favourite) and the Accent all look good.  The Alanis is only available in black but is so fab I had to include the style).

I just “refurbished” my ankle boots thanks to some Kiwi mid tan boot polish. Look how beautifully they came up!

And speaking of tan boots, look at these Champs.  Giddy up!

Opulence… for less

I adore the opulent, Baroque look that was everywhere on the catwalks for the Autumn / Winter shows recently. The incredible fabrics, the exquisite beading and embroidery, the luxe fabrics in rich colours, detailed prints and wonderful textures… I think this was best exemplified by the Dolce & Gabbana collection.  Sublime.

Now, unfortunately I don’t have a couture budget.  I have champagne tastes on a house wine budget. And I have small children that I run around after.  Luckily for me and everyone else who loves a little opulence and drama, there are some beautiful and affordable options on the high street.  I won’t be going head to toe a la Dolce and Gabbana, but I so enjoy adding bits here and there.

Today I wore sea green Primark skinnies (£13) with tan Mimco ankle boots and a black v-neck slinky Events top.  And piled on a richly coloured floral silk and cotton Zara scarf (last season, £30), a faux emerald ring I bought in Istanbul and a crystal tennis bracelet from Marks and Spencer (reduced to £10, but actually quite convincing looking).

After the nursery run with my eldest, I dashed into Zara and bought this wonderfully plush, soft fake fur stole (£30). Which I am hoping to wear as a collar over a coat, as well as on it’s own for my (increasingly) rare trips to the opera, with a black cocktail dress and red satin heels.  But the stole will probably get most of its use as a snuggle for my girls. The tactile little creatures!

Whilst at Zara, I also admired the luxe bejewelled black sash belt, which Rachel suggested I wear with black cigarette pants and a tuxedo shirt. It’s a stunning piece in real life and excellent value for money at £23.  Definitely on my wish list.

Sarah has a beautiful white French Connection blouse with an embroidered front that I am sure you will see soon. I have added this lovely Zara one to my wish list (£30, and I will get size medium) for next month.

And, of course, I can’t forget the fabulous opulent jewellery available at Accessorize and Zara.

It’s definitely a good time to be shopping on the high street! If you spot any other affordable, but opulent, things, please let us all know!  And, umm, equally, if you know why on earth my Zara links have directed to their Spanish website, please do also let me know why the hell that is!

A time of change

It’s a time for change in a couple of ways. Firstly, my eldest has just started both nursery and swimming lessons. Secondly, the warm weather is leaving, bringing a winter chill to the air.

Which, one would think, would make me search for coats. I have found one in Zara I love (but fear won’t fit my lifestyle), and another in Massimo Dutti that is both beautiful and practical for me.

So now my coat search is over [wink], it frees me up to buy Russian doll earrings from River Island, a featherweight sleeveless silk and lace Massimo Dutti blouse and look at pewter sequin New Look miniskirts [confused]. Clearly I shop in a totally haphazard fashion as those items are not exactly meeting any great sartorial need or are terribly practical. Well, life’s too short to be completely sensible and ordered, isn’t it?!

Sorry about appalling image of the Massimo Dutti shirt – just what the Sam Hill has happened to their website?!?!

When shopping for these charming, random items, I wore a black wool LK Bennett pea jacket, white Primark top, sea green Primark skinnies, tan Mimco ankle boots, Zara scarf and Reiss bag.

And to amuse you, I have included a photo of me trying on the miniskirt, which Tracey dared me to post. Here it is!! Lollipop came from my sister’s piñata at the weekend – shhh, don’t tell my eldest I ate her lollipop!!
