Trying harder

So today I tried harder and felt happier in my clothes. I also went shopping which almost always makes me happy.

I bought a few things.
20130530-162153.jpgThis is the happiest spending £7.99 has probably ever made me! Thanks H&M!

20130530-161302.jpgThe first of today’s odd poses! I tried the blue snake version of this before but it did me no favours. I like this much more. Again, it is from H&M.

20130530-160850.jpgThis bag was less than £10. Watermelon reminds me of Italy in summer which always makes me happy so it has come home with me.

20130530-162430.jpgThese black Dobrus flats from Aldo are simple but comfy. My sister had a pair years ago from Poste Mistress and they looked great with jeans. I hope these will too seeing as my sandals are getting so little wear.

20130530-171107.jpgI got these pale blue harems in Zara (though they describe them as palazzo trousers) I plan to wear them with a grey tshirt and silver sandals.

And finally the reason I’m really happy! 20130530-162548.jpgMy photo isn’t doing this beautiful Zara coat justice at all. You’ll be seeing a lot more of it so I will make sure I get a better photo next time.

I’m off to smile at my final purchase – La Bambina’s first tutu!

P.s (You can’t see my tongue but it is in my cheek)

Lazy day

When I saw Mon’s post yesterday I thought that I used to wear lots of Reiss and have hardly worn any for the past year or two.

A coincidence then that when Little Legs picked out what she wanted me to wear to go out for dinner last night she choose a Reiss shirt. This is becoming a worrying trend incidentally. I agreed some weeks ago, mid “you’re not wearing that!” quarrel, that she could choose what I wore if I could choose her clothes. I am under no illusions about who runs things in this casa.

The photo has only confirmed my thoughts on the shirt – mainly that it is supremely unflattering. To the eBay pile it goes.

Today the sun (but not warmth sadly) has finally returned to London. We need some brightness.
20130525-114326.jpg I’m looking forward to a lazy day with my sisters and kids so am being practical in Zara skinnies, Ash hi tops, H&M grey sweatshirt over an old Zara snake print tshirt and snake print scarf.

Enjoy the start of half term.

Panic stations

Anyone who has followed our blog for a while may recall the hoops I hopped through to get La Bambina’s passport to go abroad just before Christmas. Today I am going to rectify an oversight concerning Little Legs’ one. I know how to keep things exciting. Nothing like that “will we / won’t we be able to go” in the days before a much anticipated special break.

I’m dressed for warmth and hanging about and maybe a light smattering of shopping. My Barbour Arctic Parka is annoying me at the moment. Maybe it is because I still need it at the end of March. It feels uncomfortable anyway and I do not cope well when I feel uncomfy, particularly when I am dealing with this self inflicted stressy episode, so I’ve banished it.

Instead I am wearing a leather jacket with a very warm Oasis fur gilet on top, Marc by Marc Jacobs grey cross body bag, grey Topshop Leighs, black and white striped heattech, pale grey N.Peal cashmere jumper, black, white & grey Mint Velvet scarf, with Zara black and white studded trainers for running around.

I think I could’ve done with a looser black boot (like my Belstaffs) instead of the trainers to balance out the pale-ish jeans but hey ho. (Belinda and I were discussing yesterday how unflattering the angles of our photos can be on the torso and thighs)

The Oasis furry gilet was a sale bargain. Someone alerted me to it and I snapped it up. We like to follow blog etiquette and thank / link to people we “copy” things from but I have no idea who it was. Maybe it was one of my WornOut pals. Thank you anyway if you know who you are.

Wish me luck!

Family lunch

The last of the birthday celebrations for this weekend. Big family lunch out.

I wore Zara snake print trousers, cream drape front ASOS shirt over the usual Zara vest, Ash Jalouse in stone, Mint Velvet leather jacket, rose gold Mulberry and lots of make up. I’m too old for four days of partying!

Get your jacket

I like jackets.

I do not like cardigans. I am simply unable to wear them. Just looking at them makes me age a decade. I have tried all the ways I can think of trying them. Belted makes me want to scream; the double whammy of looking like someone’s grandma and feeling like I have put on a straight jacket. “Thrown on” just looks silly. Photos tell me that the chunkier the cardigan the more success I have. Indeed the more jacket like the cardigan. So I tend to just stick to jackets.  Jackets, I can wear. Lucky that.

I’m a big fan of leather jackets and have several; All Saints grey (currently residing with one of my fortunate sisters), pale caramel from Mint Velvet, Massimo Dutti red and black from Zara.

Denim jackets are brilliant. I often use one in the warmer months to “dress down” a frock but the English summer is rarely hot enough to banish jeans and I don’t really like doing double denim. The best I’ve found was from H&M a few years ago though one of my sisters has had good success with a Next one.

Anyway, this is about neither denim nor leather jackets but Other Jackets.  I’m very lucky to have been given this lovely Zara yellow pleather trimmed jacket by Sarah WornOut. It arrived on a very grey day and brightened me up no end. I can be a bit soppy with clothes. I like them even more when I have the thought that a friend gave them to me.

I’m the proud new owner of this ASOS fluro jacket too. It’s quite thin and cardiganesque without being a cardigan.

I will wear it with ripped jeans and a grey tshirt, like this.

ASOS don’t have it on line anymore but they do have some lovely jackets in.  I think these are worthy of further investigation.

And if this ASOS jacket is a good take on this Helmut Lang coat (my favourite jacket of all time), it may have to be mine.

I have got in on the quilted action with this grey quilted biker jacket from Next.  As regular readers will know, Next and I are not the best of buddies.  I adore this jacket though and have wanted to wear it every day I have owned it, even though the weather hasn’t been kind to us yet.

and me in it.

jacket3My final new offering is this black jacket from H&M.  They did this style last year as well and have it in at least five colours.  You can’t see the pattern properly from the main photo, it is a lace print.  I have an orange one from last year – they are very easy to wear.

Finally, I bought this Baukjen Kate silver sequin draped jacket towards the end of last summer (blogged here). I really like it though it didn’t get much wear. I’m going on holiday to the sun soon and am thinking of taking it to wear in the evenings. More holiday talk soon.
