I really need to stop buying flat shoes, because if I don’t own them I can’t wear them, right? I have multiple pairs of really comfortable ballet shoes and seem to reach for them by reflex in the morning.
But wearing heels makes such a difference, not just to the look, but for me anyway, to my attitude. I feel much more grown up and in control in heels.
So following on from my no jeans for a week challenge ( I have managed 10 days now, and put most of my skinnies in a storage box, attic or ebay?), I am going for a ‘no flats’ week.
This morning I’m wearing a Clements Ribiero cashmere jumper, navy wool a-line skirt, Massimo Dutti navy coat, Vuittonesqe (!) scarf, Mulberry bag, and Tory Burch Revas, now swapped for Nicole Farhi ankle boots
I had been after this bag for quite a while. It ticks a lots of boxes for me – it’s navy, not black, it’s metallic and it’s small. I find a small bag makes me bit more disciplined about what I carry around with me every day – the bigger the bag, the more stuff I put in it! This a the small version of my beloved gold Mulberry, which is my all time favourite handbag. I had a search set up on ebay, and I had bought and paid for it within 30 minutes of it appearing online. Then I went to my favorite source of handbag chains, here, and bought 2 chains in gunmetal which exactly match the hardware on the bag. I love it as a cross body bag, and I know I’ll get years of use from it.
This is it with the original short strap, and below, the modified version.
It was a bank holiday weekend here, and we went on a family day out. As much as I would like to have thrown on a pretty dress, flip flops and sunhat, I would have come home with pneumonia. Sigh. So, I had to take the layered approach.
I started off with pretty dull basics, Oasis Cherry jeans, grey marl Zara T and my staple at this time of year, Massimo Dutti navy coat. Then added my J Crew necklace, See by Chloe shoes.
Next Marc by Marc Jacobs birdy scarf.
and finally my gold Mulberry.
All rounded off with a seaside walk and a chocolate eclair. A perfect day!
I can’t believe I’m wearing this outfit in mid June, I could have taken this photo last November! But it was bucketing own this morning, and cold too, so needs must!
I’m a bit of a coat-a-holic I have to admit. I think a good coat and bag will take you anywhere. This Gerard Darel coat is incredibly useful and gets a lot of wear because it’s water-proof. It looks so like real shearling, everybody is fooled by it, but it’s actually 100% synthetic and can be worn in a deluge. Way more glamorous than oilcloth!
The scarf is Marc by Marc Jacobs from Bon Marche, a souvenir of a lovely week in Paris, jeans are Oasis Cherries, the best fitting jeans my pear shaped body has encountered yet, lace top from Topshop, shoes are Tory Burch Reva’s, and my bag, which you will become very bored of as I wear it almost every day, is a Mulberry Bayswater clutch, modified to be a crossbody. I will have to give it a blog post all of it’s own, it deserves one.
